How to visit

By Air

Uttarakhand has two domestic airports. The Jolly Grant Airport (DED) of Dehradun is situated at a distance of 22 kilometers from the city center. It is connected with Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai by regular nonstop flights. The other one Pantnagar Airport (PGH) is located at a distance of 120km from Jim Corbett National Park. This airport mainly works as a gateway to hill stations like Nainital, Ranikhet, and Almora.

By Train

Traveling Uttarakhand by rail is probably the most convenient way because of the cost-efficiency. The train station in Kathgodam, 35 km from Nainital, is the last terminus of the North East railways. Kathgodam train station has rail connectivity with Delhi, Dehradun, and Howrah (Kolkata). Trains to Dehradun railway station come from Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. Jan Shatabdi Express, Dehradun Express, Doon Express, and Nanda Devi Express are major trains serving Uttarakhand.

By Road

One of the main reasons to visit the hills in Uttarakhand is the joy that comes from the time spent on the road itself. The state has more than 1,328 km of national highways and 1,543 km of state highways. The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation runs around 1000 buses in and out of the state. Haridwar and Rishikesh are connected to Delhi by NH 34 and NH 7 passes through Dehradun with Badrinath. Highways 109 and 309 interlink Nainital, Almora, and Jim Corbett National Park. The proposed Char Dham Highway will connect all four major pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. Taxi rental service is available in all major travel destinations of Uttarakhand.

Best time to visit

Uttarakhand can be visited throughout the year, but some remote valleys and higher altitudes can be hard to experience for occasional travelers. Places such as the Jim Corbett National Park extends to near lower Himalayan foothills because of it this place experiences gentle cold in winters and heavier rainfall in rainy.

If you looking at Uttarakhand as a trekking or paragliding destination, then March-April and September-October will be the best times for you. But then if it is a honeymoon or a spiritual trip then summer will be the best choice for you as winter in most parts of Uttarakhand is so cold as someplace experience snowfall during this time of the year.
